RIP Isaac

I don't remember the first time I heard Isaac Hayes' silky smooth voice. It was probably when I was still growing in my mother's womb. A true Memphis gal, Mom liked to play me her soul records even before she had ever seen me. She liked the idea that I would be familiar with my hometown's roots from the start. And boy was I. When other kids my age were rocking out to Aerosmith, White Snake and Poison, I was grooving to Sam and Dave, Otis Redding and Al Green. My favorite song was the theme from "Shaft." It was way cooler than anything Bret Michaels ever did, and it hinted at foul language without actually jumping over that line. Add in the wacka-wacka-wacka of wah-wah guitar and I was in love.
